Email for Students (Pilot)
Gaggle.net
Gaggle.net is a free email service for students. The subscription services through gaggle allow teacher filtering, classroom discussion boards and classroom chat rooms. The subscriptions are available through a grant written for Decatur Education Foundation.
Currently, Kiernan Cantergiani, 7th grade language arts and Rebekah Goode, 9th grade English, are piloting this web based software in a structured classroom setting. We are using the service to teach students how to communicate effectively through email. Teachers are also stressing to students the difference between a personal email account, which many students already have, and a work email account such as the gaggle account set up for the school setting.
Teachers are able to provide more individualize attention to each student through the email and so far have used the email as a means to communicate assignments and lead the student through effective communication through writing.
