These are, by no means, not the only scholarships available to our students, but they are the official ones we have received as "hard copy" information. This pdf will be updated weekly and published online for interested students and parents. Anyone interested in pursuing these awards is encouraged to come to room 215 at DHS and investigate them in our "Scholarship Book". In addition, a wonderful resource, created by Black Excel and sponsored through Florida A & M University, has provided us with a list of 200 scholarship websites which we have available by "hard copy" in the counseling office, room 215. Another scholarship-search resource which may be useful--though it requires a fee to participate--is called "Need A Lift", sponsored by the America Legion. Typing in "scholarships for college-bound seniors" etc. in the search bar on the internet can unearth unexpected results too. Even investigating various foundation scholarships (with the help of the reference librarian at the public library) might provide additional sources of aid. Generally, Juniors should begin the scholarship search process in the spring of the junior year and continue the process through the winter of their senior year. In addition, college applicants should understand that applying for admission does not automatically involve applying for financial aid--these two processes are usually separate. Students are, however, encouraged to contact the schools to which they have applied and ask the FAA (Financial Aid Administrator) in the Financial Aid Office at the college for information about "all the scholarship opportunities for which I [the student] might be eligible". Some schools want the student to apply for awards and some will consider the student automatically, based on his/her qualifications.
